Game Overview
Mortal Kombat Trilogy came out on the Nintendo 64 in 1996, developed by Midway Games. It was a definitive collection for the system, bundling characters and stages from the first three arcade games into one package. At a time when 3D fighters were becoming more common, this release offered a polished, content-rich version of the series' classic 2D style. You control one of many fighters, each with unique moves, and your goal is to defeat opponents across a series of one-on-one matches. Signature mechanics include performing special moves with precise joystick and button combinations, and finishing opponents with brutal Fatalities. The game also introduced Brutalities, longer combo-based finishers. Matches are fast and aggressive, with a difficulty that spikes sharply in later towers. It feels immediate and satisfying, a pure dose of arcade-style combat.
