About This Game

Take on a daring military mission in Infiltrator, a unique action and combat-flight game released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990. Published by Mindscape and developed by Chris Gray Enterprises, the NES version is actually based on Infiltrator II: The Next Day, although it was released under the original game's shorter title. Players assume the role of Captain Johnny “Jimbo Baby” McGibbits, an unconventional helicopter pilot tasked with stopping a dangerous enemy leader from carrying out his plans for world domination.

The game combines helicopter combat with secret-agent missions, creating two distinct styles of gameplay. In the air, players pilot the advanced Gizmo DHX-3 attack helicopter, flying through hostile territory while engaging enemy aircraft. Cannons and heat-seeking missiles help eliminate threats, but careful maneuvering is essential to avoid incoming fire and reach the mission area safely.

After landing, the action shifts to ground-based infiltration. Captain McGibbits must enter enemy facilities, avoid suspicious guards, gather intelligence, and complete objectives before time runs out. Players may rely on disguises, false identification, and other tricks to pass through guarded areas. When deception fails, weapons and defensive equipment can provide a way out of dangerous encounters.

The alternating flight and infiltration sections make Infiltrator different from conventional NES shooters. Success depends not only on combat skills but also on observation, planning, and resource management. The game provides a demanding experience, with missions that require players to learn its controls and carefully manage their limited time.

With its unusual mix of helicopter simulation, military action, and stealth-based challenges, Infiltrator stands out in the NES library. Its blend of aerial combat and behind-enemy-lines operations offers a distinctive experience for players interested in classic military games from the 8-bit era.
