About This Game

Kid Niki: Radical Ninja is a side-scrolling action platformer released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987 by Data East. Originally developed by Irem as an arcade game, it brings a colorful, cartoon-inspired take on ninja adventures to the NES. Players control Kid Niki, a wild-haired young warrior who sets out on a dangerous mission to rescue his girlfriend, Princess Margo, from the evil Stone Wizard.

The adventure begins when Kid Niki receives a message revealing that Princess Margo has been kidnapped. Without hesitation, he leaves his ninja school and heads toward the wizard's stronghold. His journey takes him through forests, enemy-filled pathways, dangerous terrain, and mysterious locations guarded by strange creatures and powerful warriors. Each stage presents new threats, culminating in a boss battle that tests the player's reflexes and combat skills.

Kid Niki's signature weapon is the Spinning Sword, which he swings rapidly to defeat enemies approaching from either side. Timing attacks while jumping over obstacles is essential, especially because a single hit can cost him a life. The game also features special power-ups that temporarily enhance his abilities. The Golden Bell allows him to launch projectiles with his sword attacks, while the Silver Bell surrounds him with a protective spinning force field. Extra-life items provide additional chances to complete the adventure.

The game features seven rounds, each ending with a different boss encounter. Enemies range from ordinary guards to unusual monsters, including the dangerous Stone Wizard himself. The straightforward controls make it easy to start playing, but the fast-moving action and limited margin for mistakes provide a genuine challenge.

With its distinctive protagonist, energetic combat, colorful stages, and classic arcade-style design, Kid Niki: Radical Ninja is a memorable entry in the NES action-platformer library. It is a great choice for players who enjoy retro ninja adventures and challenging side-scrolling gameplay.
