Ninja Jajamaru-kun
About This Game
Ninja Jajamaru-kun is a classic action platform game developed and published by Jaleco for the Nintendo Family Computer (Famicom) in Japan in 1985. Featuring colorful 8-bit graphics, fast-paced combat, and enemies inspired by Japanese folklore, this arcade-style adventure became the beginning of the long-running JaJaMaru-kun series.
Players take control of JaJaMaru, a young ninja on a mission to rescue Princess Sakura from the evil Lord Namazu Dayuu. To reach her, JaJaMaru must battle through waves of strange creatures occupying a series of multi-level stages. Armed with his trusty shuriken throwing stars, he must defeat every enemy before moving on to the next round.
Each stage is arranged across four horizontal floors connected by breakable sections. JaJaMaru can jump between platforms, smash certain floor blocks from below, and create openings that help him reach enemies on other levels. Every opponent has its own movement patterns and attacks, so players must watch their surroundings and time their strikes carefully. Defeated enemies leave spirits that can be collected for extra points.
Exploration also plays an important role. Breaking blocks may reveal useful power-ups, extra lives, and other rewards that improve JaJaMaru's chances of survival. Collecting specific items can summon Gamapa-kun, a giant frog that JaJaMaru can ride to gain powerful advantages against nearby enemies. Bonus stages provide additional opportunities to earn points while testing the player's reflexes.
Although originally released only in Japan, Ninja Jajamaru-kun later reached international audiences through digital re-releases, introducing its unique gameplay to a new generation of retro gaming fans. Its simple controls, distinctive Japanese setting, and increasingly challenging stages make it an interesting alternative to more familiar NES platformers.
Help JaJaMaru defeat Lord Namazu Dayuu's monsters, uncover hidden treasures, and save Princess Sakura in this memorable piece of classic Famicom gaming history.
