About This Game

Ghostbusters II is an action game released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in April 1990. Developed by Imagineering and published by Activision, the game is based on the 1989 comedy film of the same name. It follows the Ghostbusters as they return to protect New York City from a supernatural threat involving a mysterious river of slime and the evil spirit Vigo the Carpathian.

The adventure takes players through several stages inspired by the movie, beginning in the city's underground passages before moving through streets, haunted locations, and the Museum of Art. As paranormal activity spreads, the Ghostbusters must stop waves of ghosts and other strange creatures while working their way toward the final confrontation with Vigo.

Gameplay combines side-scrolling action with driving sequences and shooting stages. During the on-foot sections, players control a Ghostbuster who can run, jump over hazards, fire weapons, and deploy ghost traps. Careful movement is essential, since enemies and environmental obstacles can quickly drain health. The driving levels put players behind the wheel of the famous Ectomobile, requiring them to steer through dangerous streets, avoid collisions, and shoot threats along the way.

Later stages change the pace with shooting sequences that resemble classic fixed-screen arcade games. Players must defeat groups of enemies while collecting useful items scattered throughout each level. Ghostbusters logos act as collectibles, and gathering enough of them grants extra lives. Weapon upgrades and special bombs can also make difficult encounters more manageable.

The game features familiar characters and recognizable elements from the film, including the rising slime, the Statue of Liberty, and the climactic battle at the art museum. Its varied stage designs and upbeat soundtrack help capture the humorous supernatural spirit of the franchise.

With its mixture of platforming, vehicle action, and arcade-style shooting, Ghostbusters II offers a varied retro adventure for fans of classic NES games and the iconic Ghostbusters universe.
