About This Game

Embark on a dangerous quest for the Holy Grail in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, a 1991 action-adventure game for the Nintendo Entertainment System, developed by Software Creations and published by Taito. Based on the 1989 film starring Harrison Ford and Sean Connery, this version follows Indiana Jones as he races to recover ancient relics, rescue his father, and prevent the Nazis from claiming the legendary Grail.

The adventure features six distinct sequences inspired by memorable scenes from the movie. Players can begin by recovering the Cross of Coronado aboard a ship or investigating a puzzle in Venice. As the story progresses, Indy must explore the maze-like corridors of Brunwald Castle to find his father, Henry Jones Sr., rescue Marcus Brody from a Nazi military convoy, and navigate a dangerous motorcycle escape on the road to Berlin.

Gameplay varies considerably between stages. Side-scrolling action sections require Indy to punch, kick, jump, and use his signature bullwhip against enemy soldiers and other opponents. Other stages focus on solving puzzles under time pressure or navigating complex environments. The final challenge takes place in the Lost Temple, where players must cross a dangerous floor, identify the correct path, and ultimately select the true Holy Grail.

One unusual feature is the freedom to choose the order of certain missions. However, delaying some objectives can make later stages more difficult or cause opportunities to disappear. Protecting the Grail Diary is also essential, as losing it can jeopardize the entire quest.

With varied challenges, recognizable movie locations, and a memorable musical score, Taito's Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade offers a distinctive NES adventure. Its mix of combat, exploration, and puzzles provides a demanding experience for fans of classic action games and the legendary archaeologist.
