Rock 'n Ball
About This Game
Rock 'n Ball is a creative pinball game released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in North America in 1990. Developed by KID and published by NTV International, the game is the regional version of Japan's Family Pinball, originally released in 1989. Instead of limiting players to traditional pinball, it introduces several different game modes that combine arcade action, competitive challenges, and sports-inspired gameplay.
The game offers four main modes: Pinball, Nineball, Battle Flipper, and Sports Pinball. In the standard Pinball mode, players control the flippers, keep the ball in play, hit bumpers, and aim for a high score. Up to four players can take turns competing, making it a fun option for friends and family.
Nineball adds a puzzle-like twist to the familiar formula. Players launch nine balls onto the table and try to land them in positions that form patterns similar to bingo, including horizontal, vertical, and diagonal lines. Success depends on careful aiming and a little luck.
Battle Flipper turns pinball into a direct competition. Two players attempt to send the ball past their opponent's flippers and into the opposing goal. This mode includes three variations—Thunder, Bomber, and Attack—each introducing different targets, obstacles, and tactical possibilities.
Sports Pinball transforms the playing field into a miniature soccer or ice hockey match. Players use their flippers to shoot the ball toward the opponent's goal while defending their own side. The result is an unusual blend of sports and pinball that adds variety to the experience.
With its colorful presentation, multiple modes, and support for up to four players in selected games, Rock 'n Ball offers more variety than a conventional digital pinball title. Whether you're chasing a high score, solving Nineball patterns, or challenging a friend in Battle Flipper, this classic NES game delivers a distinctive arcade experience.
