About This Game

Kickle Cubicle is a charming puzzle game released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990 by Irem. Originally introduced in arcades in 1988, the game combines colorful visuals, clever level design, and a unique freezing mechanic that turns simple-looking stages into increasingly complex challenges. Players take control of Kickle, a small hero with icy breath who must save the Fantasy Kingdom from a powerful enemy.

The story begins when the Wicked Wizard King covers the kingdom's Four Lands in ice and traps its inhabitants inside magical Dream Bags. Kickle is the only one able to resist the freezing spell, so he sets out to rescue his friends and restore peace. His journey takes him through four themed regions, each filled with puzzles, dangerous enemies, and a powerful boss guarding the way forward.

The main objective in each stage is to collect all the red Dream Bags and find a route to complete the level. Kickle's special freezing breath lets him turn certain enemies into ice blocks, which can then be pushed across the board. These blocks can defeat other enemies, create paths over water, or help solve environmental puzzles. Kickle can also create ice pillars to block moving objects, control enemy movement, and open up new routes.

As the adventure progresses, the puzzles become more demanding, requiring players to think several moves ahead. A poorly placed block can trap Kickle or make a stage much harder to complete, so planning is just as important as quick reactions. After the four main lands, a special set of 30 additional stages provides an even greater challenge for experienced players.

With its inventive mechanics, approachable presentation, and steadily increasing difficulty, Kickle Cubicle is a standout puzzle title for the NES. It rewards patience, experimentation, and logical thinking, making it an excellent choice for players who enjoy classic brain-teasing adventures.
