Jeopardy! Junior Edition
About This Game
Jeopardy! Junior Edition brings the excitement of the popular television quiz show to the Nintendo Entertainment System, with trivia designed especially for younger players. Released in 1989 by GameTek and developed by Rare, this family-friendly version keeps the show's distinctive format while offering a wide variety of questions intended to appeal to children and teenagers.
The game features nearly 2,000 clues across more than 400 categories, covering subjects that test general knowledge, vocabulary, memory, and quick thinking. Just like the television show, the clues are presented as answers, and contestants must respond in the form of a question. Players select categories and dollar values from the game board, then race to buzz in and submit a correct response before their opponents.
Entering an answer requires moving a cursor across an on-screen keyboard with the NES controller and spelling out the response within the time limit. Accuracy and speed both matter, so knowing the answer is only part of the challenge. Correct responses increase your score, while incorrect answers can cost you money and give other contestants an opportunity to take the lead.
Matches follow three rounds: Jeopardy, Double Jeopardy, and Final Jeopardy. During the final round, players wager some or all of their accumulated winnings before attempting one last clue. Three difficulty settings allow players to adjust the challenge, and computer-controlled contestants can fill empty seats when fewer people are available to play.
With support for up to three players, Jeopardy! Junior Edition works well as a solo knowledge challenge or a competitive family game. Its large collection of trivia, recognizable television format, and accessible presentation make it a distinctive educational-style title in the NES library.
