About This Game

Based on the popular Christmas comedy film, Home Alone brings Kevin McCallister’s battle against the Wet Bandits to the Nintendo Entertainment System. Released in 1991 by THQ and developed by Bethesda Softworks, this side-scrolling action game puts players in control of Kevin as he tries to protect his family’s belongings from the burglars Harry and Marv.

The adventure takes place inside Kevin’s house, where danger can appear around almost any corner. Players guide Kevin through rooms and hallways, collecting different trap items and placing them in the path of the approaching intruders. When a burglar triggers a trap, he is temporarily stunned, giving Kevin a chance to move past him and continue exploring. Timing and careful positioning are important, since running into an enemy without a plan can quickly put Kevin in trouble.

The game captures the mischievous spirit of the movie through its use of household objects as comic weapons. Instead of fighting the burglars head-on, Kevin relies on clever tricks to slow them down. The objective is to keep moving, gather useful items, and avoid being caught while the police make their way to the scene. The house, basement, and other areas provide the setting for this frantic contest against the clock.

Unlike some other Home Alone games released for different consoles, the NES version has its own gameplay design, focusing on collecting and placing traps in a side-scrolling environment. Its simple premise and familiar characters make it an interesting example of early 1990s movie-based video games, especially for players exploring the NES library of licensed titles.
