Gauntlet Legends came out for the Nintendo 64 in 1999, developed by Atari Games. It was part of that wave of arcade-style action games that felt right at home on the console, offering a straightforward, hack and slash experience you could jump into without much fuss.You choose from four characters, like a warrior or an archer, and fight through room after room of monsters across several themed worlds. The main goal is to defeat the evil wizard Garm and collect pieces of the Runestones he has scattered. You explore each area screen by screen, breaking pots and barrels for food and gold, which you use to upgrade your character's strength, speed, and magic. The game moves at a steady pace, and while it can get repetitive, the constant rewards and ability to power up your hero keep it engaging. It feels like a satisfying, sometimes messy, dungeon crawl that really comes alive with other players.
