About This Game

Double Dribble is a classic basketball game from Konami that brought fast-paced, five-on-five action to the Nintendo Entertainment System. Originally released in arcades in 1986, the game arrived on the NES in North America in September 1987. At a time when sports games were still working within the limits of 8-bit hardware, Double Dribble stood out for its energetic presentation, scrolling basketball court, and memorable slam-dunk animations.

Players can choose from four fictional teams: the Boston Frogs, New York Eagles, Chicago Ox, and Los Angeles Breakers. You can take on the computer or challenge a friend in two-player mode, competing across the full court as you try to outscore your opponent. The action includes passing, shooting, rebounding, defending, and driving toward the basket. Good timing and smart positioning are important, especially when the opposing team closes in and leaves little room to make a play.

One of the game's biggest attractions is its dramatic slam-dunk sequences. When a player gets into the right position near the basket, the game switches to a more cinematic view of the dunk, giving an ordinary scoring play a little extra excitement. These animations helped make Double Dribble memorable among early console sports games. The game also includes sampled speech and distinctive sound effects, adding to the atmosphere of a basketball match.

Several options let players adjust the difficulty and length of a game, making it easier to set up a quick match or a longer competition. While its controls and tactics are simpler than those of modern basketball simulations, Double Dribble remains an enjoyable snapshot of arcade-style sports gaming. For retro fans, it offers straightforward competition, nostalgic graphics, and one of the NES era's most recognizable basketball experiences.
