Bases Loaded 3
About This Game
Bases Loaded 3 takes the familiar baseball formula of the earlier games and turns it into something much more focused. Developed by TOSE and published by Jaleco, the game first appeared in Japan in 1990 before reaching North America in 1991. Unlike Bases Loaded II, there is no long season to manage here. Instead, the game challenges you to keep improving until you can play what it considers a truly perfect game.
That change gives Bases Loaded 3 a very different feel. Winning is no longer enough. After a game, your performance is judged across 13 different categories, with things such as batting, errors, and spectacular defensive plays affecting the final rating. The better you perform, the tougher the next opponent becomes. Eventually, you are expected to face the strongest team and earn a perfect rating. It turns an ordinary baseball match into a surprisingly demanding test of consistency.
The gameplay itself still offers plenty of familiar baseball options. You can throw different pitches such as curves and changeups, bunt, steal bases, make lineup changes, and attempt diving stops or leaping catches on defense. One noticeable change is the camera angle: the field is viewed from center field toward home plate, with larger players making defensive action easier to follow. There are also three different ballparks, each with its own field dimensions, which can influence how you approach hitting and defense.
Another useful addition is the Edit Team option. You can modify player names and statistics, giving you the opportunity to create a team that fits your preferred style. There is also a Watch mode where the computer can play against itself, while two-player head-to-head games provide a more competitive alternative to the single-player challenge.
Bases Loaded 3 is an interesting entry in the series because it rewards precision rather than simply grinding through a season. Every mistake matters, and that makes a clean, high-scoring performance feel genuinely satisfying.
