About This Game

Wurm: Journey to the Center of the Earth! is a science-fiction action adventure released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1991. Developed by Cyclone System and published in North America by Asmik, the game takes players on a dangerous expedition beneath the Earth's surface, where mysterious disasters threaten the future of the planet.

The story follows Captain Moby, who leads the crew of the VZR-5, an advanced underground exploration vehicle. After four previous expeditions disappear without explanation, Moby and her team are sent deep into the planet to uncover the truth, locate the missing explorers, and investigate the strange forces responsible for the growing destruction above ground. Their journey soon reveals an underground world filled with hostile creatures, mysterious civilizations, and powerful enemies.

One of Wurm's most distinctive features is its variety of gameplay styles. During vehicle stages, you pilot the Wurm through scrolling environments while blasting enemies and collecting energy capsules to replenish your fuel. The vehicle can transform into different forms, including a drill tank, a hovercraft, and a fighter aircraft, each offering different movement and combat options. Choosing the right form and weapon is essential for surviving the increasingly dangerous underground passages.

The adventure also switches to sections where Moby explores on foot, using jumps, kicks, and firearms to overcome enemies and navigate hazardous terrain. Other encounters use a first-person shooting perspective, combining precise aiming with a tactical communication system. By talking to crew members and gathering information about a monster's weaknesses, you can improve your chances of defeating it.

With its unusual blend of scrolling shooters, platforming, exploration, and tactical boss battles, Wurm offers a varied experience that pushes beyond the standard action formula of its era. Its science-fiction setting, changing gameplay perspectives, and story-driven progression make it a memorable adventure for fans of classic NES games.
