About This Game

The Lost Vikings 2 is a puzzle-platform adventure for the Super Nintendo and the sequel to Silicon & Synapse's acclaimed The Lost Vikings. Released in the mid-1990s, the game brings back Erik, Baleog, and Olaf while introducing new characters and abilities. Like its predecessor, the game focuses on solving environmental puzzles by switching between characters and using their unique skills in creative ways.

The adventure once again follows the three Vikings as they find themselves caught up in another strange journey. This time, they encounter the shapeshifting alien Fang and the mysterious werewolf Scorch. Their abilities become essential as the group travels through a series of unusual environments filled with traps, enemies, platforms, and mechanical obstacles.

Each character has a specific role. Erik remains the agile member of the group, using his speed and jumping abilities to reach areas that others cannot. Baleog specializes in combat with his weapons, allowing him to defeat enemies and activate mechanisms from a distance. Olaf uses his shield for protection and movement, while the new characters provide additional abilities that expand the puzzle-solving possibilities.

The main challenge comes from figuring out how the characters' abilities can be combined. Players can switch between characters and carefully coordinate their actions to activate switches, defeat enemies, cross hazards, and reach otherwise inaccessible areas. A successful solution often requires several steps, making observation and planning more important than fast reflexes.

The game also features a greater variety of environments and situations than the original. Its colorful graphics, expressive characters, humorous animations, and imaginative level designs give the adventure a lively 16-bit presentation.

For fans of puzzle-platformers, The Lost Vikings 2 offers a rewarding continuation of the original formula. The addition of new playable characters and abilities creates fresh challenges while preserving the character-switching mechanics that made the first game so memorable.

As one of the later Super Nintendo releases, The Lost Vikings 2 demonstrates how much variety could still be achieved within the 16-bit puzzle-platforming genre. Its clever puzzles, distinctive characters, humor, and inventive gameplay make it a worthwhile title for fans of classic SNES adventures.
