Skate or Die 2: The Search for Double Trouble
About This Game
Skate or Die 2: The Search for Double Trouble is a skateboarding action-adventure game developed and published by Electronic Arts for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in September 1990. As the sequel to the original Skate or Die!, this entry takes a different approach to skateboarding by combining side-scrolling exploration, combat, item collection, and trick-based challenges.
The story takes place in the fictional town of Elwood, where skateboarding has been banned by the mayor after an unfortunate incident involving a poodle. Determined to keep skating alive, the unnamed hero sets out to overcome the restrictions and build a new halfpipe called Double Trouble. However, the journey becomes complicated when the existing ramp is demolished and the hero must gather the money, materials, and construction plans needed to create a replacement.
Players explore streets, alleys, sewers, beaches, and other locations while encountering rival skaters and hostile characters. Armed with a paintball gun, eggs, and firecrackers, the hero can defend himself against enemies while searching for useful items. Collectibles such as fries, tacos, cassette tapes, and CDs can be traded with Rodney for improved skateboards or with Lester for new skating tricks. Choosing how to spend these items can help prepare you for the challenges ahead.
The adventure eventually leads to the Double Trouble halfpipe, where players can perform tricks, build up their score, and demonstrate their skateboarding skills. The game also allows you to skip the story and head straight to the ramp, making it possible to enjoy the trick-based action without completing the entire adventure.
With its unusual blend of skateboarding, exploration, combat, and arcade-style scoring, Skate or Die 2 offers a distinctive experience for fans of classic NES sports games. Help the hero overcome the obstacles in Elwood, rescue his girlfriend CJ, and bring skateboarding back to town.
