Panic Restaurant
About This Game
Panic Restaurant is a colorful action platformer developed by EIM and published by Taito for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1992. Known in Japan as Wanpaku Kokkun no Gourmet World, this unusual adventure turns an ordinary restaurant into a chaotic battleground filled with mischievous food creatures, dangerous kitchen appliances, and challenging boss encounters.
You play as Cookie, a skilled chef whose restaurant has been taken over by his jealous rival, Ohdove. After the building becomes overrun with hostile food and animated kitchen equipment, Cookie must fight his way through the restaurant and defeat the villain to reclaim his business.
The adventure features six stages set in different areas of the restaurant, including the kitchen, freezer, and basement. Each location introduces its own hazards and enemies, from walking hot dogs and jumping eggs to flying apple slices and aggressive hamburgers. Every stage culminates in a boss battle that tests your timing, reflexes, and ability to use Cookie's weapons effectively.
Cookie's main weapon is a frying pan, which he uses to knock enemies out of his way. As you explore, you can discover additional kitchen utensils and other useful items, including spoons and plates that provide alternative ways to attack. Collecting power-ups helps you survive the increasingly difficult stages, while bonus games between levels offer opportunities to earn extra lives and health.
One of Panic Restaurant's greatest strengths is its playful visual style. The expressive character animations, imaginative food-themed enemies, and humorous setting give the game a distinctive personality. Its straightforward controls make it easy to understand, although navigating crowded stages and defeating certain bosses can still be challenging.
For fans of classic NES platformers, Panic Restaurant delivers a memorable combination of cartoon humor, inventive enemies, and traditional side-scrolling action. Grab your frying pan, explore the bizarre restaurant, and help Cookie take back what belongs to him in this entertaining 8-bit adventure.
