About This Game

Mad Max is a post-apocalyptic action game developed by Gray Matter and Eastridge Technology and published by Mindscape for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990. Inspired by the world of Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior, the game throws players into a brutal wasteland where gasoline, food, and water are essential for survival. Taking control of Max and his powerful Pursuit Special, you must battle hostile gangs, gather supplies, and prove that you can survive the dangers of the open road.

The main gameplay takes place in top-down driving stages known as Road Wars. You steer through the desert, fight enemy vehicles, avoid roadblocks, and use limited supplies of dynamite against dangerous obstacles. Fuel is especially important because running out can bring your journey to an abrupt end. Abandoned structures and caves hide valuable resources, so exploring the wasteland is just as important as defeating your enemies.

Inside the mines, the action shifts from driving to on-foot exploration. Max searches underground areas for food, water, gasoline, ammunition, and other useful items while fighting armed enemies with his shotgun. These supplies can be traded at service stations for the resources needed to continue your journey and obtain an Arena Pass.

Once you reach an arena, the game transforms into a deadly demolition derby. You must outmaneuver rival vehicles and force them into hazards while avoiding the same fate yourself. After surviving three Road War stages and their arena battles, Max faces a final showdown that tests the skills and equipment gathered throughout the adventure.

With its combination of vehicular combat, resource management, exploration, and arena battles, Mad Max offers a challenging glimpse into a dangerous post-apocalyptic world. It is a distinctive choice for fans of classic NES action games, retro driving combat, and the legendary wasteland setting.
